Unleash Your Body’s Potential With Improved Flexibility and Mobility

Are you able to reach down and touch your toes? Can you pull your knee up to your chest? Or do joints like your hips or shoulders feel tight and stiff? If you have trouble with these movements or if you’re struggling with stiff muscles or joints, your health and wellness could greatly improve by increasing your body’s flexibility and mobility. 148 Wellness is committed to helping our clients achieve a higher quality of life through flexibility and mobility training.

First, what is the difference between the two? Put as simply as possible:

  • Flexibility is passively adding length to muscle through a range of motion.
  • Mobility is a joint that is actively moving through a range of motion.

To improve mobility, we’ll guide you through exercises that focus on the range of motion in four areas: ankles, hips, the spine, and shoulders. Think of mobility as having a flat tire: the car will move, but not very efficiently. Poor mobility can make it difficult for you to perform certain exercises or to achieve the correct form while performing those exercises.

To improve flexibility, this will involve a variety of stretching exercises that are performed after a workout, rather than before. Static flexibility stretches, where you’re holding a pose for a given amount of time, should be done after your body and muscles are already warmed up, which will allow the muscle to gain length.

Working to improve flexibility and mobility is a great way to get your body ready for more intense workouts and deeper stretches, helping you loosen up knotted muscles, and opening up the opportunity for a variety of other benefits.
